Movie Faceoff: Toy Story 3 vs Shrek Forever After

Shrek 2 (2004) was the first animated film to earn a triple-digit mark on opening weekend with $ 108 million, followed by Shrek the Third (2007) with $121.6 million. Obviously, Shrek Forever After (2010) was also hoping to break its own record or at least be the third to do so but only came with a poor $5.5 million.
What became the third animated film to crack the triple-digit mark was Toy Story 3 (2010) with $109 million to bow at No.1 and became the first Pixar’s highest-grossing opener ever, according to Box Office Mojo.. The previous record for a Pixar opening was the $70.4 million haul by The Incredibles in 2004.

Landing way back in second place was last week’s No. 1, The Karate Kid, which reeled in $29 million to bring its total to $106 million. The A-Team and Get Him to the Greek followed in third and fourth places with $13.7 million and $6.1 million, respectively.

The weekend’s other wide release, Jonah Hex, starring Megan Fox and Josh Brolin, bombed with $5.08 million to debut in eighth place.
